Our doctors directory has now crossed 60,000 doctors!
There are about 600,000 doctors practicing in India as per different reports. So we are pleased with the above number. We are hoping that we will make this number reach 100,000 by August 2008.
The directory covers all cities in India, though the maximum doctors are from Mumbai.
Do ask your favourite doctor to join us here!

MeraMD.com has relaunched its community driven doctor and hospital recommendation service. This service allows users to recommend a health service provider (doctor, hospital, clinic) to others in the community.
MeraMD.com had launched this service in early 2008 and is now re-launching an improved version of this service based on comments and feedback from the users and medical service providers.
The major changes in new avatar of this service are:
- Registered Medical service providers are now informed whenever a recommendation is received for them.
- Negative/Offensive comments are now displayed to medical service providers for their comments, leading to a possibility of 1-to-1 dialogue between the service provider and the user.
- Users are informed about the action taken on their comments. Comments can be rejected, forwarded to medical service providers or made visible to community at the discretion of meraMD.com.
The new version of this service is expected to be more useful to the community. Some of the things that remain unchanged are: it is still a free service and there is still no registration required to add or view recommendations.

We launched the recommendation feature about a couple of months back and the response has been excellent especially in the light of the negligible marketing efforts so far for meraMD.
We have got both very good and very poor recommendations from our users. This blog post is triggered by the latter variety. There have been many recommendations that use foul, unprintable language. Of course, given the context, the users did have genuine reasons for being outraged... ranging from lost ultrasound reports to gay doctors...
Though its unlikely that any of these recommendations are untrue, but publishing such recommendations will be in no one's interest. Its not just that we are hearing only one side of the story but also the fact that people can have an occasional bad experience even with very good health care providers. Its only when we have a large number of recommendations for the same doctor/hospital, that we can get a true picture about the quality its of health care.
We will shortly publish the recommendation posting guidelines on our site, but for now we request our users to follow the general netiquette guidelines. http://www.dtcc.edu/cs/rfc1855.html
The comments are expected to be objective e.g. please give data on the procedure cost, instead of just calling it "exorbitant" or "looting". Objective data will help users make an informed decision and go a long way in establishing the credibility of the recommendations themselves. Not everything can be put in objective terms, but strong disapproval is possible even without using foul language.
What do our users think?

meraMD announces a new feature to help you find the doctor/hospital that you need.meraMD has launched its recommendation engine today that will help you select the doctor/hospital in your area. The recommendations are visible on the profile of the doctor/hospital. Users can recommend the doctors so that everyone gains from the collective wisdom. To recommend someone, all you need to do is to fill up comments on the detail pages. The comments are moderated to ensure that there is no misuse.
Typically people ask their family/colleagues for doctor recommendations, but that may not be sufficient in many cases. e.g. you have moved to a new city and do not know whom to ask, or you may not want to disclose to others that you are searching for a doctor with a particular speciality, or simply, no one has the latest information. To make the feature really useful, we request our users to provide recommendations for the health care providers that you visit.
Do keep the useful feedback flowing in.
