Online health searches

Posted by meramd Sun, 20 Apr 2008 01:45:00 GMT

In a recently published report from hitwise there is data on what people search for online. Quite a few people may be surprised by this, but health search tops the list in the category of searches. Nearly half the searches online are health related!

Though this data may be biased towards internet behaviour in US, we think that results in India or any other country are likely to be similar.

The complete report is available here.

Search online and be prepared for doctor's visit

Posted by meramd Thu, 20 Sep 2007 01:52:00 GMT

Other than the issue of finding reliable health infomation, online sites can help you prepare for the doctor's visit. This has been proven by a study of patients who used the internet to research on health information before visiting their physician.  Healthcare IT news has this report on this subject.

Quoting from the report

“Many times, chemotherapy-related symptoms and side effects can be prevented or controlled, but they often go untreated because patients don't bring them up and it's challenging for a busy oncology practice to incorporate symptom screening into its daily workflow," said Tami Mark, Ph. D. , associate research director at Thomson Healthcare and lead investigator for the study.

You can use the medical search engine at meramd.com to find reliable details about diseases and medical conditions and be better prepared when you visit your doctor - its in your own interest as shown by the study.

Having said that, the meraMD team would still warn you again self-medication. Do use the research to ask more knowledgeable questions, but always consult your physician.
